Community Affairs
Over the years, B.A.'s Speakers
Bureau has responded to requests to speak at
synagogues, Hebrew school confirmation classes, and other
groups about different topics at the intersection of the
gay, lesbian and Jewish worlds.
Beth Ahavah has been a co-sponsor for many years of various fund-raisers for the
AIDS Information Network,
Equality Forum,
and other groups. We are a member of the Jewish Working Group on AIDS
and we usually have our own team in the annual AIDS Walk. We
participate in Outfest, Equality Forum, the Gay Pride parade
and fair, and sponsor an annual Pride service and seder. We are also a
member of the
Interfaith Working Group, a progressive coalition fighting the
Religious Right.
B.A. participates in the city wide commemoration of Yom HaShoah
(Holocaust Remembrance Day) and in the Israel Independence Day
celebrations. We are a member of the Center City Synagogue Association,
the
Center City Collaborative (outreach to unaffiliated young Jewish
adults) and the Klal Yisrael initiative sponsored by the Jewish
Community Relations Council (JCRC). The initiative consists of a series of
programs designed to promote respect, understanding and the ability to work
together on common goals among the various streams of Judaism.
