Services to the Ill, Grieving, and Their Caretakers

If there is one thing that members of Beth Ahavah have been proud of for many years, it is the support that the Bikur Holim committee has provided to people who are ill or grieving. We've especially noticed that many of our members have ailing and/or aging parents. Therefore we have been working to expand support to the caregivers of people who are ill.

Support for members who are ill consists primarily of rabbinic support, sending cards, phone calls, prayer, visits, flowers or balloons, and other support as needed. We also provide information and referrals to appropriate resources as well as a phone buddy system for ongoing support.

For people who are grieving the loss of a member of the congregation, a partner or immediate relative, we can provide, if needed, a variety of services:

  • Answers to any questions you may have on Jewish customs in mourning.
  • Referral to a Rabbi to lead or find a funeral leader.
  • Shiva basket or other appropriate food for shiva.
  • Someone to lead Shiva for the first three nights.
  • Our best attempt to make sure a minyan is present for Shiva during the first three nights.
  • Phone and other support as needed.
